4.2.7.3 Committee Observations The Committee noted the plea from the school for the need to employ more teachers. This was exacerbated by the huge influx of learners especially in Grade 8. The Committee expressed concern over the challenges experienced with the shortages of textbooks as well as the incorrect delivery of textbooks. The Committee was also concerned that not all teachers had received the necessary CAPS training. It was, however heartening to note that the school had been working well with sister departments in trying to address the issues around learner pregnancies, drug abuse and absenteeism - it was important that there be proper advocacy in this regard. The Committee further urged the school to ensure that the Circuit, District and Provincial Education Department were kept abreast of the many challenges faced.
