INTERNAL QUESTION PAPER [No 06-2014]
DATE OF PUBLICATION:  14 March 2014
344. Mr M M Swathe (DA) to ask the Minister of Rural Development and Land
Reform:
What will happen to land claimants whose (a) valid claims that were lodged
before 31 December 1998 were lost by his department and (b) claims were
confirmed as authentic by his department, but were unsuccessful with no
reasons provided?
NW397E
THE MINISTER OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT AND LAND REFORM:
(a) Where proof of lodgement of the claim exists (e.g. a letter
acknowledging receipt of the claim), such claims are processed. Where
no proof exists, the claimants shall be entitled to lodge new claims
when the lodgement of claims is reopened.
(b) Claims that are validated by the Commission may be reviewed by a
court particularly where the current owner of the claim objects to the
claim. Where a claim that was accepted by the Commission is
unsuccessful, claimants are provided with reasons.
