Equal Education: March for proper toilets and sanitation in Gauteng schools

EE

Equal Education will be marching to the offices of the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) to demand better school sanitation for students.

EE Gauteng started its sanitation campaign in October 2013 as a result of a sanitation crisis in Tembisa. They have also worked with similar poor school sanitation in communities like Daveyton and Kwa-Thema. In January, the GDE responded to EE's campaign by delivering two prefabricated toilet blocks each to five different schools in Tembisa – a total of 10 new toilet blocks. However, seven months later, they are not yet open to students.

EE demands that these prefabricated toilets be opened to students immediately. They have also demanded that the GDE publicly release a plan for solving the sanitation crisis in our schools on a permanent basis.

Although school sanitation has become more of a priority recently, EE is still asking for your support to keep the pressure on government to resolve this issue completely.

What you can do: The EE invites all supporters to join thousands of students and community members at the Beyers Naude Square (Corner of Simmonds and Albertina Sisulu) at 11 AM on Saturday, 13 September 2014, where they will be marching.
