Dear Portfolio Committee on Basic Education, I am a parent of Liyema Ngeno, a Learner at Peak View High School in the Metro Central district. (Athlone)My child had some problems with the school to the point that instead of the school teaming up with us with all the help we are giving the child in partnership with the social worker they have resorted to recommending that the child they will register as a private candidate under their school, however they do not know how it works. I am not happy with the decision they took at all, I feel like they are isolating him and throwing him out of school without giving him a chance. at this time of the year, how can a grade 12 learner be suspended since last week 8th of February, with no school work sent to him as promised when we had discussions and now comes with such recommendations? I feel like they are unfair toward him and avoiding having a child that has an underlying social problem because of our home situation that we live under resulting in him having to suffer anxiety and depression. I would like to ask for your assistance because even when we had the hearing the principal of the school was not present and one of the educators who is the initiator of this recommendation was so throwing unfair judgemental words, and even used hearsay from an unknown student accusing my child of using substance even though the results of that day at the clinic never shown any drug use on my child. and also they kept on saying the circuit manager is from the school so they know what they are doing and I feel they are using their powers unfairly towards us and that if we go to the circuit office for help we will not be assisted because the manager is with them. the school has never assisted the child after I went to them and explained my personal life to them and my child has also confided with them, they never arranged for any school psychologist or any sort of a program that might help him. instead, every time he is bullied and defends himself he is suspended and the police are called for him, even now this time he almost took his life because they blamed him calling him names by other learners that he is a school disrupter and now has a bad recordI need help from any organisation that might assist me in appealing this decision because today they gave me an ultimatum of either I agree with them or they expel him from school. I need your assistance comrade because my child is not a gangster or something, but a crying child for help especially at school where he is always taken as a troublemaker. and the other learners that are always involved in bullying him are in school but my child has been at home since Thursday last week. is this not setting him up for failure, is it not setting him to be one of the future unemployed youth with no matric South African child? Please Sir grant us an opportunity to see you. we are desperate and we might lose our son and he might lose his chance of becoming some leader in the near future. I have written an email and called the Department of Education, Mrs Anusha's office is the one I contacted and sent emails to her also. and I haven't heard from them.
