Dear Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs,

I would like to forward these few suggestions to the Portfolio Committee on improving Municipal revenue collection:

1. Have a system that will hold every public servant who owns a property to pay for Municipal rates via persal especially those in provincial and national government.

2. Pensioners and other grant recipients should be subsidized and deduct directly from grant payment, e.g. let's say R20 monthly.

3. Municipalities should sell electricity directly to the community not Eskom to generate continuous revenue.

These measures will ensure that municipalities are able to sustain themselves with the monthly revenue collected from every household. It is time we pay for services rendered by these municipalities. Even informal settlements have access to water and electricity they should pay. Taking electricity sales from Eskom to municipalities will assist them to generate income. Municipalities are the ones who should buy electricity directly from Eskom to be distributed to households, this will increase regular monitoring by these individual Municipal entities in ensuring that service are paid for.

Thank you, hope this will assist the committee in improving revenue collection and sustaining Municipal growth.
