Dear Portfolio Committee on Sport, Arts and Culture,

I would like to bring to your attention the lack of facilities and infrastructure in many South African communities, particularly in disadvantaged communities. I come from Qongqotha Location, a village close to King William's Town in the Eastern Cape. So many young people are so talented there, particularly sports-wise, but often give up due to a lack of opportunities as these communities are overlooked and the lack of infrastructure and facilities to properly train to nurture their talents. They are playing in dangerous conditions where many are at risk of injuring themselves and do not have any form of necessary equipment.
We would like to plead with you to help out in such areas. These children often give up and end up using drugs or add to growing teenage pregnancy statistics, due to the above-mentioned challenges.
Sports indeed is a game changer for many black children in this country. We really need our sports department to do more. The future of many young lives depends on it.
