Dear Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements, I thank you you for affording the public an apportunity to comment, upon reading the questions and responses on social housing rental policy relief fund , I would like to enquire if social housing institutes were made aware of the rental relief policy so that it could of made it much easier to advise their tenants of such information by uploading it on their website ,social pages , informing tenants through newsletters and sms notifications ect. SHI have the ability to do this through their platforms since they are in control of their database of tenants , they were also cancelling leases during the time of covid so if SHI were made aware of this ,instead of cancelling certain leases and eventually evicting ,they could of offered the rental relief to their tenants so the real question is if they were made aware of this offer and if yes ,why didn't they make their tenants aware of it ,many Tenants had no idea and still have no idea and many are suffering from fighting an eviction till today due to covid 19 or may have already been evicted . SHI needs to provide data on all tenants that went into arrears since April 2020 and if they were afforded the opportunity to apply or not and why .
