Dear Portfolio Committee on Basic Education

I hope this find you in order. As a young teacher I find my self puzzled and fill with great concern with regards to our education system in South Africa. Its so sad that one goes into this profession with passion and whilst at it,hate everything about it.

Grading: 30 % is as insult to African child and learners are not putting effort in their studies because of this. Learners have lost sense of responsibility when it comes to education and they know that they cannot repeat a phase twice. My plea is do away with 30% , build technical school, hire specialist to examine the child's likelihood of accessing in a theoretical school, and if the child probability of success is low, then they be enrolled to a technical school from Grade 1 until matric. There, they will be taught skills like how build a car, house, anything else that's practical for that matter, they will have in depth knowledge of their speciality. I have came across learners who do project exceptionally well and when you give them a pen and paper they fail decimally.
Secondly, in my opinion the lack of cultural education leads to lack of respect in this country. We raising kids who don't know who they are, but are taught to be what they find, hence the killings in our schools, children do not have morals and values. Introducing cultural education in our schools will bring sense of respect, ubuntu and learners who are responsible and decisive correct decision making. This will help them to respect teachers, parents and everyone in the community.
Lastly, I strongly suggest that the government introduce a bursary system for all learners. Every school in SA becomes a fee-paying school, and every learner is awarded a bursary of which they keep by performance and good behaviour in school. This will not foster a sense of responsibility to learners only but even parents will always push their kids to do well in school.

How I wish educators had a platform to raise their ideas in making the education system in south Africa better and beneficial to all who live in South Africa.

Yours in education
