Addressing nutritional needs during the first 1 000 days of a child's life, including the 270 days of a woman's pregnancy, followed by 365 days in each of the first two years of an infant's life, is imperative if we are to reap the benefits of good health and the development of our children. Nutritional support programmes, in addition to ARV interventions, remain vital. This approach has contributed to the successful reduction of mother- to-child transmission of HIV by 50%.
