Reply
1) (a) An amount of R2,7 billion was allocated by the National
Treasury for the Eradication of Mud and Other Inappropriate
School Structures in 2008 for the 2009 to 2011 MTEF period. Out
of the R2,7 billion, R1,5 billion was allocated to the 2010/11
financial year. This amount was additional to the
Infrastructure Grant to Provinces (IGP) allocation which
includes the erection/upgrade of the schools infrastructure in
general. For the future, Treasury has allocated R8,2 billion
for accelerated school infrastructure delivery initiative
(ASIDI) of which R700m has been allocated to the 2011/12
financial year. The National Department of Education is the
executive authority for the ASIDI programme.
2) Department of Education would be best placed to respond to this
question as the budget is with that Department.
