NATIONAL COUNCIL OF PROVINCES
QUESTION 195
FOR WRITTEN REPLY
Date of publication on internal question paper: 28 May 2010
Internal question paper no: 14
Mr D D Gamede (ANC-KZN) to ask the Minister of Social Development:
Whether her department has any plans in place for the re-registration of
grants for people with disabilities; if not, why not; if so, what plans?
CO237E
REPLY
No. There are currently no plans to re-register grants for people with
disabilities. The Grants Review process for permanently awarded Disability
Grants, which includes Means Testing and Medical Review Assessments, offers
SASSA the opportunity to determine whether Disability Grant beneficiaries
still comply with legislated requirements for the grants they hold.
People with disabilities are, however, given opportunities to re-apply for
the Disability Grant when their temporarily awarded Disability Grants have
lapsed (expired).
