(1) The parcel of land known as “Portion of Reserve No. 5 of Farm 15824” was investigated for ownership confirmation and feasibility studies for the future development of a police station. The Mhlana Traditional Council was consulted and provided a letter of consent thereto. The Ingonyama Trust Board was also consulted, as the registered title holder, and provided lease consent as well.
Technical studies such as land surveying, engineering infrastructure assessments, geotechnical studies, environmental screening and municipal town planning approvals, were obtained thereafter. The technical studies are the guiding documents for the police station design phase, which was completed. Due to budget constraints, the South African Police Service (SAPS) has prioritised the construction of the new Dondotha Police Station, using alternative building methods, on the latest SAPS Infrastructure Development Plan 2025/26.
The hand-over of the site to the service provider is scheduled for the week of 24 to 28 February 2025. The contractor was activated for the construction of a temporary satellite police station and the site hand-over is scheduled for the end of February 2025. The anticipated completion date for the provisioning of the required collapsible units, is the end of March 2026.
(2)(a) The Kenville Seacow Lake, Ward 34 is situated in the Greenwood Park Policing Area, within the Ethekwini District. The area is densely populated, with an estimate of 45 500 residents. The area has six informal settlements, comprising of 5 441 people.
Regular crime operations, such as high-visibility patrols, stop-and-searches, roadblocks and suspect raids, are conducted. In addition, monthly community engagements in the form of awareness campaigns, imbizos and Community Policing Forum meetings are held, to address the high crime rate. A total of 47 undocumented foreigners and 15 drug-related offenders were arrested, during the period from 01 April 2024 to 16 February 2025.
(b) Kenville Seacow Lake, Ward 34, receives policing services from the Greenwood Park Police Station, as it is approximately 2,7 km away. Currently, the Greenwood Park Police Station does not have a satellite police station or mobile community service centre for the Kenville Seacow Lake area, however, a feasibility study will be conducted during 2025, to determine the need.
