QUESTION
96. Mr G G Boinamo (DA) to ask the Minister for Cooperative Governance
and Traditional Affairs: (IED)
(1) Whether he has taken any steps to curb the instances of damage to
water pumps, equipment and electrical transformers in Mothotlung; if
not, why not; if so, what steps;
(2) have any arrests been made or criminal charges been laid against
alleged perpetrators of such crimes; if not, why not; if so, how many
in each case? NW97E
REPLY:
1) Among other measures, the following were put in place by the
Municipality to prevent recurrence of water interruptions:
⢠The Municipality has a maintenance plan and team in place;
⢠An external service provider has been appointed for additional support;
⢠Stand by equipment is available;
⢠Critical spares have been ordered; and
⢠Facilities and installations are being guarded.
2) A case has been opened with the Brits South African Police Service,
(case number CAS76/01/2014). Two suspects have been identified, both
of whom are foreigners, and are yet to be arrested. It should be noted
that incidents of theft are rife, and are most pronounced in matters
to do with electricity infrastructure.
