Dr G A Grootboom (DA) to ask the Minister of Arts and Culture:
(1) Have any heritage sites been identified during the period 1 January
2009 up to the latest specified date for which information is
available; if so,
(a) how many and (b) where are these sites located;
(2) (a) how many of these sites were in disrepair and (b) what total
amount has the department budgeted for such repair?

REPLY:
1) (a) Yes, 52 heritage sites (including 33 graves) have been
identified for declaration and restoration from the period 1
January 2009 to date.

2 (a) 11 sites were in disrepair.
(b) A total amount of R833.5Â Million has been budgeted for capital
works over the MTEF period. Provisions for repairs for heritage
sites is made within this budget.
