Dr Rabie was born and raised in Worcester. He completed a Masters degree in Anthropology, a Doctorate degree in Philosophy and an Honours degree in Business and Administration from Stellenbosch University. Before becoming involved in politics, Dr Rabie worked in academia and taught Anthropology at Stellenbosch University and later became a senior lecturer at the University of Western Cape. Since his entry into politics, Dr Rabie has served on a number of portfolio committees such as Sport and Recreation, Trade and Industry, Public Education and Finance. Dr Rabie joined the DA in 2000 as the party’s Caucus Treasurer and was appointed as the DA spokesperson on Trade and Industry in 2005. He was re-elected to Parliament in 2009 and appointed as the Deputy Shadow Minister of Economic Development, the DA’s spokesperson on the appropriations committee and currently executing duties as the Shadow Minister for SCOPA – the Standing Committee on Public Accounts.
