About Michael Waters

Mr Waters is originally from England but migrated with his family to South Africa in 1972. He completed a Diploma in Human Resources at WITS Technikon. Mr Waters joined the Democratic Party in 1989 and held a number of positions in the youth structure of the party and was elected as the Youth President in 1994. He was elected to Parliament in 1999 and was re-elected in 2004. Since his election to Parliament, Mr Waters served as a spokesperson for several portfolios, such as the Post Office, Home Affairs, Public Service and Administration, HIV/AIDS, Social Development and Health. In 2009 Mr Waters was re-elected to Parliament where he currently serves as the DA’s Deputy Chief Whip in the National Assembly.
