Prior to his current position in the ANC, he formed part of the Parents Crisis committee which dealt with the 1976 student uprisings in Soweto, he worked for the Bongolethu Civic Association, was employed as coordinator of the Bongolethu Advice Office and served on the Southern Cape Advice Office Forum. He has served as Member on the Sports and Recreation Portfolio Committee in Parliament.
