Mr Madala Backson Masuku, born 6 June 1965, served as Deputy Minister of Economic Development (2014 - 2019). A mathematics and science teacher from 1989-1990, he was the Business Manager for the Youth Education Trust from 1990-1992. He also served as organiser of the ANC Youth League from 1993-1994, developing mobilisation, recruitment strategies and membership systems management. Mr Masuku attended the Provincial Government in Transition Executive Programme (Wits) in 1994 and obtained a Certificate of Competence in Public Service Management (examinable) offered by Wits. He also holds a Master's in Management - Public and Development Management (2002) from Wits University and MCOM Leadership Cum Laude (Dissertation on Local Economic Development, 2014) from UKZN. Moreover he served in the Provincial Executive Committee structure of the SACP from 1992-2007 and is currently a member of the Central Committee of the SACP since 2007. source: economic.gov.za
