Ms F Khumalo (ANC) thanked the Concerned Pensioners for raising all the issues to Parliament. Most pensioners would have not been able to appear before Parliament and the issues raised in the petition were therefore broadly representative of issues faced by older persons countrywide.
Ms F Khumalo (ANC) welcomed the presentation and commented that it was clear and showed that the Department wanted to see very strong family units. The Deputy Minister had said without the family there would be no nation; that was very commendable.
Ms F Khumalo (ANC) asked the DSD to clarify its legislative provision for dealing with the transfer of a child in alternative care. She asked if there was a provision which catered for the removal of a child who was over the age of 18 but below 21 years.
