... Apart from the governing lessons, the Committee also learnt a lot about waste water treatment technologies and innovations, for instance a sight visit to Ipswich Treatment Plant, which uses the innovative Narendra sewage treatment technology, which was very informative. The technology allows for the treatment of waste water, with unique feature of aerobic granular biomass, invented by the Deaf University of Technology in partnership with Royal Haskoning Dwars, Heederik en Verhy, DHV, which is the Dutch Foundation for Applied Water Research and Dutch Water Authorities.
The treatment plant operated by the water authority, Water Skavele en Veluwe treats waste water produced by East London Town, EP, and the surrounding areas, including the industrial and the domestic waste. The system uses aerobic biological treatment methods that require no chemicals or if needed a minimal compared to the conventional technologies.
