Thank you, Mr Speaker. This statement is about the Public Protector's report and recommendation. The ANC welcomes the report and the recommendation of the Public Protector and also the fact that the weaknesses in corporate governance have been pointed out.
However, South Africa is a constitutional democracy where the rule of law reigns supreme. The Minister of Communications and the board of the SABC must be given an opportunity to study the report and its recommendations before any action is taken. The call made by other parties that the board of the SABC must come and give account is premature and ill-informed. This is because the recommendations and the report are not the be-all and end- all. Those who are implicated in the report must be given an opportunity to be heard. Thank you. [Applause.]
