Speaker, I move without notice:
That the House -
1) notes that the African Union (AU) celebrated its 50th anniversary on Saturday, 25 May 2013 which was also Africa Day;
2) further notes that on the day of celebrations, leaders from 54 AU member states gathered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to celebrate 50 years of formalised solidarity under the theme: Pan-Africanism and the African Renaissance;
3) acknowledges that the AU has come a long way from the days when it was known as the Organisation of African Unity (OAU);
4) further acknowledges that the OAU was set up in May 1963 to secure independence for countries under colonial rule and to build on the new status for independent states; 5) recognises that during these celebrations, officials debated about the future of the continental organisation and later participated in a friendly football match between two founding countries, Ethiopia and Sudan; and
6) extends its best wishes to the AU and calls upon all citizens of Africa to observe this day annually to promote continental unity.
Agreed to.
Order! Hon members, the noise level in the House is too high. Hon members, come to order!
