The ANC is shocked by the DA's hypocrisy in dealing with education and gangsterism in the Western Cape. They took R6 million away from the education department and gave it to the City of Cape Town.
The City took R11 million and gave it to an NGO, called "First Community Resource Centre", as part of a project called "Ceasefire". There are still question marks around this NGO and its initiative should be investigated.
What is even more disturbing is that Premier Zille deemed it prudent to rob the children of the poor from the Cape Flats of vital education necessities by reducing the budget in this way. [Interjections.] The problem here is that taking from the education budget is, in effect, taking from the poor.
Since education is the key to reducing criminal activities such as gangsterism, this initiative clearly shows that the DA makes no sense in governing in this province.
We call upon all the parents of these children, right-thinking citizens, the community and stakeholders in education to reject this desperate move to buy votes in the Western Cape.
