Hon Speaker, I move without notice:
That the House -
1) notes that Friday, 21 September 2012, marks the International Day of Peace that was established by a United Nations resolution in 1981 to coincide with the opening of the General Assembly and was officially declared in 2002 as the permanent date for the International Day of Peace; 2) further notes that this year's theme for the International Day of Peace is "Sustainable Peace for a Sustainable Future";
3) recalls that by creating the International Day of Peace, the UN devoted itself to worldwide peace and encouraged all humankind to work towards the achievement of this goal;
4) believes that this day provides an opportunity for individuals, organisations and nations to create practical acts of peace; and
5) calls upon peace loving South Africans to commemorate and strengthen the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples of the world.
Agreed to.
