Hon Deputy Speaker, I move without notice:
That the House -
1) welcomes the great honour bestowed upon South Africa to share its hosting of the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) with Australia;
2) notes that two-thirds of the SKA antennae technologies will be built in Africa and the other third will be built in Australia and New Zealand; 3) recognises that in anticipation of its hosting of the SKA telescope, South Africa has already built the KAT 7 (Karoo Array Telescope), consisting of seven radio telescopes, as a test bed for the technology;
4) acknowledges the excellent effort put in by the South African team and the fact that we have an excellent site, great scientists and good research that will give us the answers that we need and make this a successful project on the African continent; and
5) congratulates the team for securing South Africa as a location for the Square Kilometre Array.
Agreed to.
