Chairperson, I hereby move without notice:
That the Council -
1) notes the campaign launched on Friday 11 May 2012 by the Department of Home Affairs to stop the duplication and theft of identity documents in terms of which it plans to contact 29 000 cloned South Africans;
2) further notes that last week the department published the names of affected people in some newspapers and will extend its reach this week by including community newspapers;
3) acknowledges that this campaign, which aims to encourage individuals whose ID numbers have been cloned to visit Home Affairs offices to solve the duplication problem, will go a long way to government's commitment to put an end to ID theft and cloning and result in the arrest of the criminals that continue to hide their ill deeds behind the stolen names of innocent citizens; and
4) takes this opportunity to applaud this great initiative by the Minister of Home Affairs and her continued commitment to turn the Department of Home Affairs around.
