The Portfolio Committee on Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, and Portfolio Committee on Employment and Labour adopted an interim report requesting an extension for oversight work the Committees were tasked with, through a resolution of the National Assembly, looking into the living and working conditions of farm workers, farm dwellers and farmers. The resolution stated that the Committees were to report to the House on this work by 30 November 2021 however this deadline would not be met hence an extension was requested.

Co-Chairperson Dunjwa said that a resolution was passed by the National Assembly (NA) on the 10 November 2020 and the Committees were given a mandate to conduct oversight work by the end of November 2021. However, due to several factors, they will be unable to do so. She indicated the Committees are looking to request an extension. The duration of the extension will be determined by Members.

Co-Chairperson Mandela indicated that the NA resolved that the two Committees should conduct an oversight visit on the living and working conditions of farm workers, farm dwellers and conclude the work by 30 November 2021. However, as the Committees will be unable to conclude the work by the required date, they have requested an extension to conduct the oversight by 30 November 2022.

The interim report was adopted.

Co-Chairperson Mandela said the Committees will await the approval from the NA.

Co-Chairperson Dunjwa said that the Members should commit themselves to the task given to them by the NA.
