Parliament releases provisional list of designated members headed for Parliament

On Friday, 16 May, Parliament released a list of designated Members for the National Assembly and a list of Members of Provincial Legislatures for the Fifth Parliament.

However, the lists are bound to be amended as there are Members on the list who have declared that they will not be going to Parliament. For example, Ramphele Mamphela, Lindiwe Mazibuko, Tim Harris and Dina Pule have all indicated that they will be pursuing other interests.

Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng will swear in the designated Members for the National Assembly on Wednesday, 21 May at 10:30am. Once sworn in, Members will elect the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, as well as the President of the Republic.

The first sitting of the National Council of Provinces will be held the following day, 22 May at 10:30am, where Chief Justice Mogoeng will swear in the permanent delegates for the provincial legislatures. Once sworn in, Members will elect the Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson and other Presiding Officers of the National Council of Provinces.
