Infographic: Tourism and its contribution to SA's economic growth

With the tourism season now in full swing, People's Assembly looks at how the tourism sector has contributed to South Africa's economic growth. Earlier this year, SA Tourism briefed the Tourism Portfolio Committee on the state of international tourism. International tourist arrivals to South Africa are expected to reach the 10 million mark this year - a first for our country. This is positive news, as tourism was identified in government's New Growth Path economic strategy as one of six key job-driving sectors. Reports have shown that tourism contributed approximately 617 287 direct jobs in 2012, 4.6% of direct employment in the country.
