The IDs' Secretary-General, Mr Hoosen, hails from Durban and studied for a B Proc degree in Law. In 1994 he was the youngest candidate to enter Parliament and later served as a Councilor on the Durban Metro Council from 1996 to 2001. In September 2005 Hoosen joined the Independent Democrats and was soon after appointed as the IDs' Election Campaign Manager in March 2006. After becoming a member of the IDs' National Executive Committee, Mr Hoosen was elected as the IDs' Secretary General in 2007. He was elected to National Parliament in 2008. He comes into the fifth Parliament as the Democratic Alliance's Shadow Minister for Home Affairs, since June 2014.
